About KCGH
Background, role and approach of Knowledge Centre Global Health.
What is Global Health?
Global Health investigates how we can improve health and reduce inequality worldwide. Examples include fighting infectious diseases in low-income countries, sharing knowledge about healthcare in crisis situations, and looking for solutions for diseases we can also encounter here.
More informationWho are we?
The Global Health Knowledge Centre (KCGH) is a small, dedicated team that gathers and disseminates knowledge on Global Health. We bring healthcare and Global Health professionals together, share news and practical examples, and help apply new insights in Dutch healthcare.
The Netherlands has several organisations working on Global Health. We work with partners such as NSGH and OIGT to pool knowledge and make it easily accessible. In this way, we avoid duplication and strengthen each other's activities.
Vision “By sharing knowledge, we increase the chances of a healthy future for everyone, worldwide.”
Our focus
In the coming years, we will particularly focus on Planetary Health and Health Equity. We are also committed to bringing Global Health topics to a wider audience so that non-specialists also understand why these topics are relevant to everyone.
Mission “We make Global Health knowledge practically applicable to the Dutch healthcare sector.”
Core values
Equal opportunities
We are committed to fair health opportunities, with extra attention to the most vulnerable.
Learning together
We work together on the basis of mutual respect, sharing ideas and learning from each other.
Open & inclusive
Everyone is welcome to participate: diverse backgrounds and fields of expertise strengthen our approach.
Our history
KCGH was founded in 2020 by the Netherlands’ Society for Global Health (NSGH, formerly known as NVTG) and the Training Institute for International Healthcare and Tropical Medicine (OIGT). It was prompted by a motion of the Dutch Parliament (2019) to share foreign experiences and knowledge with Dutch healthcare practice in a structured way. We are funded by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and work with four part-time colleagues.
Together with our partners, we share knowledge, organise meetings and develop practical tools for healthcare professionals.
