For instance, research is regularly conducted into questions that could actually already be adequately answered by existing literature, marginalised groups are often not included in research and (bio)medical research is associated with a large negative environmental impact. This guide aims to make (future) researchers aware of the complexity and responsibility involved in scientific research.

For whom?

The guide was written for students and teachers, but is valuable for anyone involved in (bio)medical research.

Establishment

This guideline was developed within the Faculty of Medicine at UMC Utrecht, from the Planetary Health Integration Team. This first version was created with the help of various experts in the field of different types of (bio)medical research, diversity and inclusion and sustainability. Just as society and science are constantly evolving, this document will continue to adapt to new insights.

Feedback is sincerely appreciated and may be shared through: https://edu.nl/n4vt6Questions may also be shared through this URL or may be emailed to: planetaryhealth@umcutrecht.nl.

How can you access the guideline?

Click here to download and it will open in a new tab from where you can easily save it.

guideline-socially-responsible-research-version-1-2

MedicineTo this guide can be referred to as:Groenewegen AD, Wijnhoven AM, Janmaat J, de Kort MAC, Dekkers JF, et al.
