And what does this require of us \u2013 as professionals, organisations and society as a whole? During the symposium \u2018Care for Newcomers \u2013 Shared Care, Shared Strength\u2019, we will explore familiar paths and new directions together. At a time when migration, care systems and social relations are in a state of constant flux, it is essential to explore and deepen our perspectives and to join forces.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The key question of the day is: What does shared care require of professionals, organisations and newcomers in a changing landscape?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Programme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The symposium programme consists of a varied mix of a keynote speech, interactive workshops and inspiring sessions. Below you will find a preview of the programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The symposium will be conducted mainly in Dutch, with some parts in English. Drawing on his experiences as an artist, social entrepreneur and co-founder of New Dutch Connections, he demonstrates how human connection, trust and compassion contribute to a society in which newcomers can put their talents to good use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through poignant stories from his own life and from the lives of people he has worked with, Bright invites professionals to look beyond systems and procedures and to continue to see the person behind every story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Bright O. Richards<\/strong> is an actor, theatre maker and co-founder of New Dutch Connections. Since arriving in the Netherlands in 1991, he has been committed to fostering a society in which newcomers are given the opportunity to develop their talents. Through theatre, education and social innovation, he creates opportunities for people to come together that foster connection, dialogue and a sense of belonging. In day-to-day practice, language barriers, discrimination and exclusion also affect their access to healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this session, we will explore how current political and social developments are affecting the provision of care for newcomers. We will discuss what you, as a care provider, can do: how can we, despite the challenges, continue to work together to uphold human dignity and ensure accessible care for everyone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Elize Smal<\/strong> works as a health and migration adviser at Pharos, the centre of expertise on health inequalities. Her work focuses on the impact of migration and refugee backgrounds on health and health inequalities. What motivates Elize is contributing to equal opportunities in health. Through the partnership between Doctors of the World and \u2019t Broek Omhoog, health-related activities are therefore offered in a place where people already come together for language lessons, work, socialising and other activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From a women\u2019s consultation hour in the Care Bus to informative group sessions and discussions about mental health. In this workshop, the speakers will share their experiences of this outreach approach. What makes this way of working possible? What helps in the collaboration between the medical and social sectors? And what have they learnt along the way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Melanie Lebbink<\/strong> is a doctor specialising in international healthcare and works for Doctors of the World and Rijnstate.
