The NSGH has set up a new working group: Global Oncology. The working group brings together professionals and initiatives in the field of global oncology care, research and education, with the aim of strengthening collaboration from the Netherlands.
The burden of cancer is increasing worldwide, whilst there are significant disparities in access to timely diagnosis and high-quality cancer care.1,2 A number of professionals and organisations from the Netherlands are already active in the field of global oncology, but these initiatives are often still fragmented.
The new NSGH Global Oncology working group therefore aims to gain a better understanding of what is happening in the Netherlands, to share knowledge and experiences, and to connect professionals, organisations and oncology centres. Through collaboration, existing and new initiatives can reinforce one another.
‘Significant health benefits with limited resources’
In the June issue of Medical Oncology Initiators André Bergman and Adriaan Bins explain more about the reasons behind the working group and their own experiences with global oncology in countries such as Suriname and Uganda.
‘Now that there is a widespread sense of urgency regarding global oncology, better organisation can help to strengthen all Dutch initiatives,’ said Bergman.
